Happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all who have served our country, both past and present.
In honor of the first official week of swimsuit season, we’re declaring this week to be BEACH WEEK, with posts dedicated to swim suits and accessories. Aren’t you excited? 🙂 Shopping for swimsuits is probably one of women’s least favorite shopping trips (and who can blame us: no one likes to look at themselves in stores with poor lighting and the pressure to buy?). Luckily many retailers are offering swimwear that you may not think about when swimsuit shopping (JCrew, Madewell, Gap, Old Navy, Piperlime, Anthropologie, etc.). So if you have a store where you know the clothes fit you well, check them out online to see if they also offer swimwear! Many stores offer free shipping on swim suits – so buy a couple, try them on the privacy of your own home, and send back those that don’t fit. A little tip: get a spray tan (or apply self tanner on your legs and arms yourself) before trying your suits on. A healthy glow will hide any imperfections and help get you into the summer mindset. One rule when shopping for bathing suits: find one you like, not one that you “should” wear. We can offer advice as to specific body types, but at the end of the day, looking good in a bathing suit is about confidence. If you love it, you’ll look (and feel) great!
BIKINI
If you’re willing to bare all, go for it! You can of course go the string route, but there are many styles today that offer slightly more coverage and support. Look for ruffles, prints, fringe, and retro shapes to add some fun to your suit.
TANKINI
A tankini is great because many stores will offer tops and bottoms separately, so you can customize the fit while getting the coverage of a one piece! Look for them in sporty stripes and with details such as rings, ruching (gathering), and bandeau (strapless) tops.
ONE PIECE
These have come a long way, and more and more stores are offering one pieces in great shapes and patterns, and with many interesting (and flattering) details! Some even have control panels to help everything stay in place. Cut outs, ruffles, prints, and ruching all work great on these flattering suits!
