Transition Time: the button down

button downsWe’re continuing with our series on transitioning into Fall, and today we’re visiting the button down.  It’s no secret that the button down has made its way back into our wardrobes within the past year, as we visited it here and here, and have used it countless times in outfits we created for this blog.  It’s such a versatile piece!  You can go with classic white, chambray, prints such as florals and plaids, and of course, a flannel.  Some important tips when wearing a button down:

1.  Remember to roll the sleeves.  We like them to look a bit messy and undone, to give you an effortless look.  So don’t worry about getting the cuff perfect!

2.  Try a half tuck – tuck in just the front and let the rest hang out.

3.  Think outside the box.  Try pairing it with a statement necklace, use it in pattern mixing, layer it with something unexpected.  It can go with anything!

Today we picked a flannel from Madewell to show you how to transition some of your summery bottoms into fall.

Button Down Cutoffs Cutoffs: The button down of course looks great with cut offs.  Try a more feminine pair of flats and a polished blazer to add some interest to your outfit.

Button Down White denimWhite Denim: When paired with ankle boots and a plaid flannel, your white jeans can take you all the way through fall!

Button Down DestroySkinny Destroy: We talked about these jeans earlier this summer, but they’re a great piece to wear with your button down.  Dress them up with a tweed moto jacket and pair of loafers.
