Baby is here, and we’re finding our sea legs…it’s good to be back! I shared my Maternity Must-Haves with you a little while back; and now that I’ve found myself no longer with a bump to proudly flaunt but a post-baby belly to hide, daily dressing can be a frustrating challenge! We know they say “9 months up, 9 months down”, but let’s face it, after 9 months, the last thing you want is to still look pregnant! With bags under your eyes, a baby to feed (what feels like constantly), and forgetful baby-brain, what you’re going to wear today is not exactly a top priority. However, sometimes taking a shower and getting dressed in something other than sweats or workout clothes is just what you need to feel a little like your old self again! Plus, you might be looking forward to a first night out with your hubby or going to lunch with friends to show off your sweet new bundle of love. Here are some of my “essential” pieces that are getting me through this in-between time.
Dresses & Layering Pieces
Billowy and loose hides the belly, but strappy with a nice scoop neck shows some skin and draws attention upward. Pair with one of my favorite Target racer-back nursing bralettes or even these soft-wireless lacy bras from Pink. It’s ok to let them peek out as part of a layered look! Boy tanks are great for layering under strappy dresses and tanks too to cover up those not-so-pretty nursing bras. A tunic dress is another great option to show off your legs but hide the belly area.
Drapey Tops, Leggings and Flowy Bottoms
Leggings are comfy and forgiving where you need them to be, but keep a slim silhouette on the bottom when paired with a tunic, or long flowy tank. My favorite soft, slouchy bottoms are key once again, and can be worn with an easy tank, or a half-tucked drapey tee or blouse to fake a waist shape. Silky shorts do the same trick! Maxi skirts with a knit waistband are also a comfortable option. My trick it to wear with a slim fitting layering tank, but pair with a long scarf to hide the belly!
Accessories – Always a Must!
Never forget the accessories! It seems like the easiest thing to let go when you’re throwing on clothes to get yourself out the door, but as we always tell our clients, they put the finishing touch on your look and pull it all together. They also draw attention away from areas you might not be ready to show off just yet. Loop your scarves longer to hide the belly; wear a statement necklace to draw the eye upward; make your layered bracelets a fun conversation piece; cute shoes always get noticed!
